RESEARCH-BASED COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM HELD AT SMAN 4 SINGARAJA

Singaraja, April 24, 2026 — The Indonesian Literature Study Program of Udayana University carried out a Research-Based Community Service Program for Lecturers and Students at SMAN 4 Singaraja on Friday (24/4/2026). This activity represents the implementation of academic research outcomes aligned with community needs, particularly within the secondary education environment.

The activity began with a discussion between the school representatives and the Head of the Indonesian Literature Study Program of Udayana University, I Gusti Ayu Agung Mas Triadnyani, S.S., M.Hum. The discussion focused on students’ needs in developing literacy skills, particularly in creative writing as part of strengthening language and literary competencies.

The program was then realized through a creative writing training session delivered by one of the young lecturers from the Indonesian Literature Study Program, Eirenne Pridari Sinsya Dewi, S.S., M.Ed. In this session, the speaker introduced the fundamental concepts of creative writing, techniques for generating and developing ideas, and strategies for transforming ideas into engaging, coherent, and communicative written works. The material was enriched with contextual examples and hands-on exercises, enabling students to both understand and practice the creative writing process.

The objectives of this activity are as follows:

1. To enhance students’ literacy skills, particularly in creative writing.

2. To implement research findings of lecturers and students in real community settings.

3. To foster students’ interest and talent in language and literature.

4. To equip students with writing skills applicable in both academic and non-academic contexts.

5. To build sustainable collaboration between universities and schools.

The activity was conducted interactively, with high enthusiasm from the students. They not only received the material but also had the opportunity to directly practice writing techniques and receive feedback from the speaker. The engaging and inspiring atmosphere encouraged students to be more confident in expressing their ideas through writing.

Through this activity, students are expected to further develop their potential in literacy while fostering appreciation for literary works. On the other hand, this program also serves as a concrete step in strengthening the role of higher education institutions in community service based on academic expertise.

The activity concluded with the presentation of a token of appreciation to the school as a symbol of partnership, followed by a group photo session involving the service team, school representatives, and participants.
