Grand Final of Jegeg Bagus FIB 2025 Showcases a Fusion of Tradition and Modern Ideas
Denpasar — The Jegeg Bagus (Cultural Ambassadors) selection of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Udayana University, 2025, is a long-standing series of events that serves not only as a selection platform for faculty ambassadors but also as a process of character building, self-development, and fostering togetherness among students across different study programs. This year, the event carries the theme “ARAVINDĀNĪ,” which means the light from a lotus that blooms in various forms and meanings. The series of events began with a photoshoot session for the finalists, followed by training, talent and interest performances, essay presentations, the preliminary show, and culminating in the Grand Finale of Jegeg Bagus FIB 2025 on Sunday (1/06/2025), held at Widya Sabha Mandala, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Udayana University.
The Grand Finale was attended by various parties, including the Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Udayana University, Ni Ketut Puji Astiti Laksmi, S.S., M.Si., who also gave a speech and extended her support to the finalists and organizing team. The event was also attended by the Chairperson of the Student Senate of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences 2025, representatives of the Student Representative Board (BPM) FIB, the Head of the Jegeg Bagus FIB 2025 organizing committee, and representatives of Jegeg Bagus from other faculties within Udayana University. Additionally, the Grand Final night was graced by a panel of judges consisting of academics and experts in the fields of culture, public speaking, and self-development.
The Grand Finale opened with the Jegeg Bagus Opening Dance, a traditional Balinese performance presented by all finalists. This dance served not only as entertainment but also as a symbol that Jegeg Bagus represents Balinese youth who uphold local cultural values such as traditional music and dance. After the opening, the finalists participated in a paired dialogue session, representing their respective study programs. In this session, the finalists introduced and promoted their study programs in an engaging and concise manner using the Balinese language.
The event continued with the announcement of the top five Jegeg and Bagus finalists. These five finalists then entered a Q&A session aimed at exploring their insights on cultural issues, education, and the role of youth in today’s era. Following the Q&A, the top three Jegeg and Bagus finalists were selected and challenged to provide critical perspectives or solutions to more complex questions—marking the final stage in determining who is most prepared to intellectually and personally represent FIB.
In addition to the main selections, special awards were given during the Grand Finale to appreciate the finalists’ talents and presentation skills. The Best Talent award was presented to both Jegeg and Bagus from the Old Javanese Literature Study Program. The Best Presenter award went to the Jegeg finalist from the English Literature Program and the Bagusfinalist from the Indonesian Literature Program. After the entire selection process, the main winners were finally announced: Second Runner-Up was awarded to Jegeg from the Balinese Literature Program and Bagus from the Japanese Literature Program; First Runner-Up went to Jegeg from the Cultural Anthropology Program and Bagus from the Archaeology Program. The title of Winner Jegeg and Bagus FIB 2025 was awarded to Jegeg from the English Literature Program and Bagus from the Indonesian Literature Program.
“There is still so much of our culture that remains unfamiliar to many young people, and that’s what my friends and I want to bring forward. And as campus ambassadors, we can also show mannerism about how to dress or how to interact in a good way with other people,” said Haris, Bagus from the Indonesian Literature Program, regarding his thoughts on being named the 2025 Bagus winner. The Jegeg Bagus selection of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences at Udayana University is not merely a contest of physical appearance or popularity, but a search and development process for individuals who can represent FIB as inspirational, communicative, and culturally aware figures—both academically and socially.
