Practical lecture environment
Paul Suardi, a professional MC, moderator, motivator, and radio announcer who is very reliable as the sole resource person in a Public Speaking practitioner lecture held by the Indonesian Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Udayana University in room 5 Goris, Friday (12/05/2023).
For students, public speaking ability is essential and must be mastered. This ability can help students when they want to convey ideas so that they can be conveyed properly and on target. Not only that, but public speaking can also prepare students for an excellent future career.
Mr. Paul explained that various obstacles can arise when someone speaks in public. Blocks themselves occur due to nervousness, anxiety, and fear. It can be called glossophobia. The fear of glossophobia appears as a natural response of the body because it feels threatened when it comes to public speaking.
To overcome obstacles when speaking in public, Mr. Paul gives several tips to make it fluent, namely by opening your mouth properly so that the sound can be heard clearly by the audience, then breathing with the diaphragm not with the chest so that the sound produced is more stable and the power increases, then don't think of the audience as enemies but think of them as friends.
During his practitioner lectures, he expressed his pleasure and pride because he could become a practitioner lecture lecturer so he could share the experiences he had gained while doing public speaking.
"Talking can change your life," he said at the end of the closing of the first day of learning. The non-rigid way of teaching makes students happy to be able to learn and share experiences directly with Mr. Paul. Then he emphasized that "The key to successful public speaking is practicing every day". It is hoped that the students for the next lecture will go as well as the first day.
