Second Day Practitioner Lecture
The second day of the Practitioner Lecture took place on Monday, May 29 2023 at 09.40-11.20 WITA. They are located in room 5, Goris Building, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Udayana University. The theme of this lecture is News Text Editing Practice.
Still the same as before, the visiting lecturer who teaches is I Nyoman Winata, S.E., M.I. Kom. and accompanied by a lecturer from the Indonesian Literature Study Program, Drs. I Wayan Teguh, M.Hum.
Writing mistake
Mr. Winata explained that typographical errors could occur due to several reasons, such as a split in concentration when writing news.
“Because he's in a hurry, let's say hurry up. Some journalists have to pick up their children from school and so on, have to rush to pick up their children and then have to make a news report, being chased by a deadline, sometimes their concentration is a bit scattered.” Said Mr. Winata.
Mr. Winata pointed out writing errors in printed news.
Mr. Winata advises students to avoid misunderstandings when writing news headlines. Just a punctuation mistake can change the actual meaning.
Material Exposure.
In the presentation of the material, several examples of news were shown that had punctuation errors in the title. The headlines that were discussed in the material were "Mother's Death Alarms Health Service Decline" and "Adoptive Child Speaks About Divorce Vena and Ivan in Court".
“'Mother's Death Alarms Health Services Decline' So just missing a comma there, raises a different perception. There is a message Ibu Alarm, the death of Ibu Alarm means that there is a mother's name, Ibu Alarm. Even though what is meant by 'Maternal Death, Health Service Decline Alarm' is supposed to be like that, so this is a bit confusing." Mr. Winata was clear in explaining the material.
"'Adoptive children talk about divorce from Vena and Ivan at trial.'
Editing Practice
News Text Manuscript One.
Students have distributed a piece of paper containing news text. Mr. Teguh distributed papers as a companion. There are two different news texts, each student gets one sheet of text to edit. The first text is entitled "Ecotourism in Subak Sembung Peguyangan", and the second text is "PHRI Badung Calls Tourists Acting in Bali Not Pure Holidays".
After editing, corrections are made together. In the first text, the correction was read by Given, a class B student. There were several errors in the text, such as typos and capital letters. In the second text, a class A student, Helga, read the correction.
The second text was considered less interesting, Mr. Winata argued that if this news had only one source, the sources' opinions would also be very few. Journalists should be able to provoke more opinions from sources.

"If I agree, maybe this news needs to be provoked again by the source." Opinion of Mr. Winata.
In text two, the answers from the sources are considered lacking. The guest lecturer asked the students what they thought about the solution so that foreign tourists would not throw tantrums in Bali. One student named Satria gave his opinion.
"I've seen it on the TV news. If I'm not mistaken, if for example, an Indonesian citizen wants to go abroad, at the place where the visa is located, you will be interviewed first, sir. It's like, what are you doing in America? How much money have you brought? When is the target going home and with whom are you here? So this has not been implemented on Indonesian flights or the government to ensure that Caucasians or foreign nationals don't go around arbitrarily when they go to other countries."
Closing
At the end of the session, Mr. Winata gave a message to the students. "Those of you who study at the faculty or department of Indonesian Literature must have strong reading skills." After the class, a group photo was taken as the final documentation.
