National Teacher's Day 2023: Indonesian Literature Undergraduate Study Program Adds One New Professor in the Field of Literature
Commemorating National Teachers' Day 2023, Udayana University again inaugurated 11 Permanent Professors in an academic ceremony that took place at the Widya Sabha Auditorium Building, Unud Bukit Jimbaran Campus, on Saturday 25 November 2023. One of the new Professors came from the Indonesian Literature Bachelor's Literature Study Program namely Prof. Dr. Drs. I Ketut Sudewa, M. Hum. In the inauguration ceremony which was held at the Widya Sabha Auditorium Building, Unud Bukit Jimbaran Campus, the Chancellor of Udayana University, Prof. Ir. Ngakan Putu Gede Suardana, M.T., Ph.D in his speech said that "currently Udayana University has 518 Lectors and 334 Associate Professors, who will then be encouraged to become Professors. We just need to encourage them a little, they can become great teachers. Thus, I think that within 2 years the number of professors will definitely increase at Udayana University."
"Hopefully the Professors who were inaugurated today, will not stop and be complacent, but must always develop their knowledge so that it can be implemented into the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. In the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, there are education, research, and service, how to integrate these three Tri Dharmas of Higher Education so that they can be integrated with each other in such a way as to produce optimal achievement, not only research, education, and service alone, but all three must be ", said Prof. Suardana.
Prof. Suardana added, "so that the research produced, apart from being for education, must also be able to provide service. The downstream of this research is not just a paper or journal but must also have an impact on society. So we emphasize that they must continue to perform and contribute because the demands of this Professor do not end here. Every year we must have written work so that we can then provide impact and results to society." It is believed that increasing the number of professors at Udayana University, especially in the Bachelor of Indonesian Literature study program, can support improving the quality of the higher education process that takes place at Udayana University. This then contributed to realizing the vision of Udayana University, which is superior, independent, and cultured.
At his inauguration, Prof. Dr. Drs. I Ketut Sudewa, M.Hum delivered a scientific oration entitled "Local Wisdom in Mitigating the Mount Agung Disaster in the Novel Beneath the Eruption of Mount Agung by Djelantik Santha". Mount Agung as the mainstay of the Balinese universe and the center of the spiritual orientation of the Balinese people is widely outlined in traditional texts. Various palm texts in Bali contain many stories about the virtues of Mount Agung. However, it turns out that Mount Agung has not been explored much by modern Indonesian literary writers. So far, only a few poems about Mount Agung have been discovered as well as a novel by Djelantik Santha entitled "Under the Eruption of Mount Agung". "This novel, which was published in 2015, maybe the only novel that deals with the theme of the 1963 Mount Agung eruption disaster," said Prof. Sudewa. This novel is a contextual reading. People not only get a detailed description of the events when the highest mountain on this tiny island erupted but also feel the tense atmosphere, full of uncertainty, bitterness, and pain in the face of this devastating natural disaster.
At the end of the opportunity, Prof. Sudewa stated that with his current academic position, he hopes to increase his contribution to advancing the faculty and university. “This achievement is an academic position that requires effort, hard work, and prayer. A position that I must fill by increasing collaboration with colleagues to advance the faculty and university. "My hope is that in the future there will be more professor positions in the Faculty of Cultural Sciences in order to improve the quality of human resources," said Prof. Sudewa.
