My Story as a Japanese Studying in the Indonesian Undergraduate Study Program in Literature, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University

`

I am Shotaro Togasa is a foreign student from Japan.  I recounted the experience as a foreigner who attended lectures at the Undergraduate Study Program (Prodi) Indonesian Literature, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University.

I joined the Strata One (S1) program starting in 2019.  Before participating in the S1 program of the Indonesian Literature Undergraduate Study Program FIB Unud, I participated in the Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) program at the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University to study and study practice Indonesian language skills for two years.

The knowledge gained during college at the Undergraduate Study Program of Indonesian Literature, FIB Unud is very useful and useful.  The Bachelor of Indonesian Literature Study Program has an interest in linguistics and literature. I myself am interested in the field of Indonesian linguistics.   So, can add knowledge about general linguistics and linguistics Indonesian.  For lecturer Indonesian Language shares knowledge to explain linguistic theories and his research experience, so as to understand the theory and add insight related to the topic or research ideas that I will do later.

In addition, I attended lectures in the field of Sastra Indonesia.  Lectures in the field of Sastra Indonesia study literary theories and hands-on practice, for example learning to write poems, compose short stories, and play roles in small drama performances.

I studied foreign language courses, namely English, Arabic, Sanskrit, Old Javanese, Japanese and Dutch courses. I took a foreign language course, because I had to learn a new language other than Indonesian.

In the lecture process, there is no exception for foreign students studying at the Indonesian Literature Undergraduate Study Program FIB Unud. The lecture materials and assignments given by the lecturers are the same as indonesian students.  Therefore, foreign students are very much needed to have the ability to speak Indonesian to understand lecture materials or do assignments given by lecturers who teach courses.  After attending the lecture, I did my coursework in the reading room of the FIB Unud campus.

The reading room is a space where there are benches and tables for studying. In general, students do assignments or take lectures online. Next to the reading money is a library. Therefore, if I need a book reference for an assignment, then I look for a reference book in the library. The FIB Unud Library provides many books in the field of linguistics and Sastra Indonesia. Similarly, there are books of science in other fields and theses that have been written by seniors.  To know about thesis compilation and I read the thesis in the library.

In addition to lectures, there are organizational activities at both the study program level and the faculty level.  In this organizational activity , it collaborates with students of other study programs within the Faculty of Humanities to create seminar activities, student sports weeks, and others. Undergraduate Study Program of Indonesian Literature, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Udayana University has two major events that are carried out regularly every year, namely Pekan Sastra and Bulan Language.  I participated in the committee of the event, so that I could interact with indonesian friends. I myself can know and learn the use of Indonesian, for example the use of Indonesian for hosts and moderators.  With it, the knowledge of writing letters can be practiced directly when participating in campus event activities as a committee.  In addition to lecture activities, I gained experience to learn many things from organizational activities.

Thus, the story of my experience while attending the Program Study lecture at the Bachelor of Indonesian Literature, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University.  Thanks.  (ST)
