INTERNATIONAL SERVICE DEGREE: BIPA PROGRAM, FACULTY OF CULTURAL SCIENCES, UDAYANA UNIVERSITY PARTNERS WITH FOUR STUDY PROGRAMS

On Friday, August 18, 2023, the BIPA Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Udayana University held a service to the international community in collaboration with Kanto International Senior High School Japan, which took place at SMKN 5 Denpasar. This time, the activity also collaborated with four study programs within the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Udayana University, namely the Study Programs of Indonesian Literature, Balinese Literature, Japanese Literature, and Old Javanese Literature. The theme that was carried out in this activity was "International Community Service: Promoting Cross-Cultural Understanding Across Nations". It is hoped that this activity can introduce and deepen understanding of cross-cultural communication and interaction, especially between Japanese and Indonesian cultures.

 

The Head of SMKN 5 Denpasar, I Made Buda Astika, S.Pd, M.Pd., welcomed the implementation of the international community service activities that were carried out at the school he led. He said that activities like this were very useful in motivating students at SMKN 5 Denpasar to continue their studies or work directly in Japan later. He also hopes that this kind of activity can continue every year. In line with this, the Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Udayana University, Prof. Dr. Made Sri Satyawati, S.S., M.Hum., also hoped that this event would be able to give a deep impression to students from both Kanto International Senior High School and from SMKN 5 Denpasar. It is hoped that both parties will be able to learn from each other in collaboration and have additional knowledge about cross-cultural communication and interaction, especially Japanese-Indonesian culture.

 

The main agenda in this activity was the presentation of "Japan-Indonesia Cross-Cultural Communication" by Yumiko Horas from Kanto International Senior High School, followed by "Cross-Cultural Understanding in Japanese-Indonesian Interaction" by Dr. Made Ratna Dian Aryani, S.S., M.Hum., and Ni Putu Candra Lestari, S.S., M.Hum., from the Japanese Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Udayana University. The activity also included the practice of cross-cultural interaction in the form of the practice of writing Balinese script calligraphy guided by Putu Eka Guna Yasa, S.S., M.Hum., from the Balinese Literature Study Program, assisted by a lecturer from the Old Javanese Literature Study Program. The service was closed with daily cross-cultural communication training in the form of hospitality and cooking activities guided by lecturers from the Indonesian Literature Study Program and Japanese Literature.

 

This activity was also coupled with the signing of a cooperation agreement (PKS) between the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Udayana University, and SMKN 5 Denpasar. Through the signing of this collaboration, it is hoped that closer relations will be established between the two parties in implementing cooperation in the field of higher education tridharma.
