Indonesian Literature Program Hosts Guest Lecture on "BIPA Teaching" and Forges International Collaboration with Universite Le Havre Normandie
The Indonesian Literature Study Program of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences held a guest lecture on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, on the topic "Teaching Indonesian to Speakers of Other Languages (BIPA)." The guest lecture invited Prof. Darwis Khudori, a professor from the Faculty of International Affairs, Université Le Havre Normandie, France, as the speaker. The lecture took place in the Soekarno Room, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Udayana University, at 2:00 PM WITA and was attended by Indonesian Literature students. The moderator for the lecture was Jalu Norva Illa Putra, S.S., M.A.
Prof. Darwis Khudori is an architect, writer, and historian. He graduated from the Architecture Study Program, at Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, then continued his education at the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies, Rotterdam, Netherlands, and earned his Doctorate from Université Paris IV-Sorbonne with a focus on the History of the Contemporary Arab and Muslim World. Currently, he serves as the Director of the Master's Degree Program in Exchanges with Asia at the Faculty of International Affairs, Université Le Havre Normandie. He is also an Indonesian language teacher for speakers of other languages (BIPA) at the university, bringing extensive experience in BIPA teaching.
In this guest lecture, Prof. Darwis Khudori shared his journey as a BIPA teacher. He also provided tips and tricks related to BIPA teaching. He motivated students to not only use their Indonesian language skills to become BIPA teachers but also to apply these skills in various other career fields. The attending students were enthusiastic and many were interested in asking questions and engaging in discussions.
In addition to serving as a medium for conveying information about BIPA teaching, this guest lecture also aimed to discuss the potential collaboration between the Indonesian Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Udayana University, and Université Le Havre Normandie. The discussion on this collaboration involved the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs of FIB Unud, the Coordinator of the Indonesian Literature Study Program, and the PIC of Cooperation for the Indonesian Literature Study Program, along with Prof. Darwis Khudori. During the discussion, both parties expressed interest in student exchange activities and agreed to follow up on the discussion with further correspondence regarding the necessary cooperation documents.
