FLASHBACK: DEVOTION AND FIELD RESEARCH PRACTICES OF THE INDONESIAN LITERATURE PRODUCT IN CEMPAGA VILLAGE, BANGLI
The Indonesian Literature Study Program is again carrying out practical research training taking place in Cempaga Village, Bangli. This year, students from the class of 2022 are required to take part in this activity as a field practice value. In this activity, students are invited to carry out observations and collect data in Cempaga Village, Bangli, and the surrounding area. 67 students took part in this activity, of which 6 were Independent Student Exchange (PMM) students. The implementation of this activity was also accompanied by lecturers, the 12 lecturers who accompanied were Prof. Dr. I Wayan Cika, M.S., Prof. Dr. Ni Made Dhanawaty, M.S., Prof. Dr. Drs. I Ketut Sudewa M.Hum., Prof. Dr. Made Sri Satyawati, S.S., M.Hum., Dr. I Gusti Ayu Agung Mas Triadnyani, S.S., M.Hum., Dra. Pt. N Widarsini, M.Hum., Jalu Norva Illa Putra, S.S., M.A., I Gusti Ngurah Mayun Susandhika, S.S., M.Hum., Ida Bagus Gede Dharma Putra, S.S., M.A., Eirenne Pridari Sinsya Dewi, S.S., M.Ed., Isnan Waluyo, M.A., and I Putu Ari Putra Maulana, S.S., M.A.
Cempaga Village, Bangli was chosen as the research location because it was considered to have the potential to provide a lot of research data, and there is a cultural heritage there, namely Pura Kehen. This sub-district also still holds various literary works and lontar-lontar which explain the founding of Cempaga Subdistrict, Pura Kehen, and the names of surrounding villages, as well as the myths that developed in the area. Cempaga Village is located in the center of Bangli City, so this makes it quite easy for students to get a lot of data related to languages, such as language variations, code-switching, and code-mixing.
All students participating in the research were divided into 12 groups, consisting of 9 groups of students concentrating on linguistics and 3 groups of students concentrating on literature. For observation and data collection to run effectively, each group is required to prepare a research topic and research instruments before this research activity is carried out.
Service activities at SD Negeri 1 Cempaga
This research will last for two days, starting on Saturday, May 25 2024 to Sunday, May 26, 2024. The series of events held are research and service. On the first day, students arrived at the accommodation location at around 09.00 WITA. After resting and worshiping, each group representative took part in community service at SD Negeri 1 Cempaga. Representatives of this group were tasked with accompanying the lecturer, namely Mrs. Eirenne and several other lecturers, to teach poetry to students at SD Negeri 1 Cempaga. Meanwhile, other participants listened to instructions from the supervisor regarding technical observations and data collection in the field. After that, at 10.00-11.45 WITA, each group split up to carry out observations and collect data.

Data collection activities were paused and continued with an agenda of lunch, worship, and a short break at the initial gathering place. At 13.00-16.00 WITA, students continued their observations and data collection. After finishing and gathering back at the accommodation, the agenda continues with rest, bathing, worship, and then dinner. Then, at 20.00 WITA, all students and accompanying lecturers gathered to hold a discussion. Each group representative was asked to explain the topic being researched and the amount of data that had been collected on the first day. The accompanying lecturers also provided suggestions and input to each group. After the discussion, as a closing activity for the first day, all students and lecturers rested and activities continued tomorrow morning.
On the second day, activities started at 07.00 WITA, starting with showering and breakfast. Continuing at 08.30 WITA, each group again carried out observations and data collection to complete the missing data. For students whose data is complete on the first day, the lecturer is free to carry out non-curricular activities, such as visiting tourist attractions in the Bangli area. Meanwhile, several students also chose to stay at the accommodation location to carry out an analysis of the data that had been collected on the first day with their respective groups.
At 11.00 WITA, students were asked to gather again at the accommodation location to rest and prepare to go home. Before traveling home to Denpasar, students and lecturers held a group photo session as documentation that the Indonesian Literature class of 2022 had completed service and research activities in Cempaga Village, Bangli on Sunday, May 26, 2024.
By holding this research training, students are expected to be able to improve their practical skills, namely in data collection methods, data analysis, and reporting research results effectively. Through direct experience in the field, students can deepen their understanding of the topic being researched. This can also help connect theory in research with real practice. Apart from that, through these research and service activities, it is hoped that we can maintain good relations and build closeness between all participating students and lecturers.
